Who Is Miss Dodds?

Howdi! I'm Miss Dodds.

I am from Potsdam, NY.

I originally studied zoology at SUNY Oswego to become a zookeeper. I worked in the bird department at the Baltimore Zoo for 3 1/2 years and then decided to go back to school for education. Some days I feel like I'm still working at the zoo! Just kidding...

This is my 8th year teaching at Norwood-Norfolk. I love my career!

I have three class pets: a rabbit named Mamo,  a black bear hamster named Monty, and a painted turtle named Gertie. I am hoping to get some new fish for the large river tank in my room this year to add to the collection. At home I have another rabbit, named Chubby Mamo, and some fish.

My favorite color, as many of my students already know, is PINK!!!! Although, I can find beauty in almost any color given the right setting in nature.

I have a four year old son, who is "full of it" all the time, and is the absolute center of my life! There's nothing quite like looking at the world through the eyes of a child. His aquisition of language and other skills amazes me on a daily basis. What a wonderful time of life!

We have taken on tee ball this year, well, mini-tee ball anyway. I got sucked into coaching, too! It's really funny if you know anything about my athletic abilities! It's been fun so far!

In my free time I like to read, be outdoors, go on picnics, hike, surf the internet, and dine out.

One of my favorite books that I read last summer was "Prodigal Summer" by Barbara Kingsolver. I absolutely loved this book. Over the summer I also read, "The Third Secret" and "The Templar Legacy" by Steve Berry. He writes similarly to Dan Brown in "The DaVinci Code" and "Angels and Demons". Also, "Marley and Me" by John Grogan. Excellent non-fiction book about life with a crazy, but loveable dog. Next I read "Memoirs of a Geisha" by Arthur Golden, which was made into a movie a couple of years ago. I am currently reading "Under the Tuscan Sun" by Francis Mayes. I am so drawn into this book...the author literally takes you to Italy...the sights, the sounds, the flavors of the food...I MUST go there someday! I am anxious to try some of the recipes she includes within the text of the book. YUM! I also read  "Salem Falls" by Jodi Picoult...very good, with a bit of Wicca in it...very cool.

I think I just need to create a list of my favorite authors now...it's starting to get out of hand...and I'm enjoying a wider range of reading material these days.

Miss Dodds' Favorite Authors
Kaled Housseini - The Kite Runner...phenomenal! And I'm waiting to get his next book...A Thousand Splendid Suns
Kim Stanley Robinson - 40 Signs of Rain, 50 Degrees Below, 60 Days and Counting...science, global warming

Oh, good heavens, I almost forgot...of course I read the newest and last book in the Harry Potter series last summer. I finished it in 3 days! Whew!

I also enjoy reading the following magazines: National Geographic, Discover, Time, Women's World, and Cooking for 2.

My hobbies, which I don't really have any time, or space, to do them, include; scrapbooking and mosaic art. These activities really get my creative juices flowing...and it's a great way to relax and not let the worries of the world weigh me down. We all need some special activity to "take us away."

On a final note...SPRING IS HERE!!! Yay! Hope everyone is getting out and enjoying the sun and warmer temperatures.
